Our sweatshirts are produced with a commitment to minimising environmental impact at every stage. They are also Fair Wear certified – a mark that ensures manufacturers uphold the highest working standards (such as safety, working conditions and fair wages) and adhere to the internationally recognised Code of Labour Practices (derived from ILO Conventions and the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights).
Our garments are made from organic cotton, a natural GMO free fibre that uses less water than standard cotton. Its production does not involve the use of harmful chemicals (no fertilisers or pesticides). It is also GOTS certified – the strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres, tracking production from farm to factory.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies the absence of harmful chemical substances in all our garments. We only use water-based textile inks for screen-printing. No discharge printing, no transfers, no PVC or phthalates, and no solvents. The eco-ink we use is highly durable to wash and to wear, with a superior pigment colour to stay bright and beautiful.
Why doesn’t everyone use eco-ink for screen printing? Because it can be trickier and more time-consuming to use. That’s why all our shirts are individually screen printed in England, on a small scale.
The Numbers is committed to ensuring that we minimise our use of packaging and other consumables in every part of our small business. We use eco-friendly, sustainable materials and inks in our packaging, and do our best so that everything we use is from a recycled source, recyclable, or both! All our packaging is plastic-free.
We want you to love our shirts, and never want to let them go. But if one day you must, please hand them on to someone else to enjoy (The Numbers adore a good hand-me-down, and clothes swaps are a big hit here at HQ!). Pass it on to a friend, drop it into a charity shop or give it to a women’s refuge, to be loved all over again.
If it has been REALLY well-loved please pop it into clothing recycling (often offered curb-side or collection points at major supermarkets).
The Numbers supports charities which reflect our goals of making the world a cleaner and kinder place. Each year we’ll be making donations from product sales to causes that protect the environment and make life better for women and children.
Our first charity partner is Lendwithcare, which brings together entrepreneurs in developing countries with people with the power to help them. Run by one of the world's leading aid and development organisations, Lendwithcare is a revolutionary way to help people in the developing world to transform their lives through microfinance loans. Proceeds from sales will provide funds for women entrepreneurs building their own businesses to work themselves out of poverty, and support their families.
